We made it home to the house around 4:30 after we went and saw Memaw and Pepaw and Uncle Raleigh and Aunt Frances. Then we went to Mamaw and Papaw's to see them and Odie. After that we went to church and had a great service. It is wonderful to be back home and in church. Well today started off busy. Dad went to work, Vic off to golf and Mom off to grocery stores. Working on the unpacking and getting back on to Ohio's time and not Arizona's time. We definitely had an amazing vacation that we will never forget.

It's 8am in Indy, Sunday, really rhe last day of our trip. I think we're on Central time here? Don't know.
The flight was about 40 min. late arriving but it was a good one and we all had good time on the plane. We took a taxi to the hotel, shuttle was busy. Once checked in at the Comfort Suites, we secured Yucko Bell for all but
me, I had one last Humberto from Phx. Soon to wake up all for 11am departure....

Uncle Davy Stop.
One final stop on the way to Sky Harbor. Humberto's is a burrito place that puts Hot Head and Chipotle to shame, well it's better to me anyway. The fellow behind the counter said his boss was looking to expand so I touted our area. The pork carnitas is fabulous with a pico that bites back in tandem with the red chile sauce I had them add at the store. The have regular styles or create your own option. I was creative... We're eating at the airport after returning our rental car, the kid's chose Jack-in-the-Box over Humbertos but what do they know. They CAN cart around luggage rather well though.

Also: There is a very sweet post on .www.boggsblogs.com concerning Davy & Kelly's friends in Montana and the kindnesses bestowed on them, a unique tribute, you'll see. Truly they are blessed.

We have had a dream from which we will awake. But not yet. We're still having fun. We stopped for favorite grub to eat at the airport as we wait for the flight at 4:05 and are leisurely checking blogs and watching the crowds.
I really like the overpass fencing that looks like the horizon all around this vast valley of heat. We have been here in what the locals call monsoon season. Winter and summer there are 2-3 weeks of sporadic rain and cloud cover. We caught drizzle once or twice and apparently it rained plenty last night because our swim gear and towels were soaked on the veranda this morning. Said rain caused us to bustle around with laundry this morning washing and drying in order to pack and exit by 11. We made it with excellent direction by our lovely cruise director. You really can not imagine the benefits of marrying so well! Thank you my love...
The bug is for Kelly. It was creeping across the parking lot last night. Kinda small, about 2.5" or so.

We are packing up one last time. Mom is finishing the laundry. The boys are packing up the last box to be sent home. I'm just sitting here watching them try to close the box and tape it up:) We check out @ 11, return car @ 230, and fly out @ 4.

We had a great last day at Sunsplash waterpark. We dont have any pictures cause of the water issue but we had a blast on all the slides!!! Miss ya all and will be home soon:)

Our last dinner on vacation- Red Lobster!!! Let's see... shrimp, crab, cajun chicken linguini alfredo, snow crab legs, lobster and shrimp mashed potatoes, blackened rainbow trout, some biscuits, and ONE slice of chocolate cake with ice cream called the Wave. It was all very good. Went back to the condo for one more night:(

I must say I was rather proud of us for conquering real fear and leaping off these cliffs. This leap was impressive to me in a lot of ways. It was difficult to climb these sandstone cliffs from the very bottom and by the time I got back up top for the second time, it didn't seem worth the third climb to get back out! I should have went though, because the actual leap was exhilarating! Well, V did it, and then went up to the highest point possible for his third. I'm very proud of all of us, but Long and Lean was the testosterone king for the day!

Really a neat old place. The town is alive with RT. 66 nostalgia. We had burgers, chili spaghetti and of course V had a steak...
We're back at the hotel hostelry. If you still wonder what it is, ask the kids when we get home. We iced up the cooler to keep our
grub cold for tomorrow's picnic in Sedona's Slide Rock State Park. Those pics should amaze you. It's kind of a natural waterpark, Hot weather and COLD water.

We.re at at the Grand Canyon Hotel, continuously operating hotel in AZ, since1891. The rooms are all for 2 persons, very nice with claw tubs, wood floors and squeaky all around, We decided to book the 6-bed hostel, a common sleeping area with 2 baths under the upper 4 beds. K and I are on the bottom. There's a common "living" area just down the hall, kind of a hippy joint. I'l have to make several posts to get pics up. Sort it out.

We're at the top of The Grand Canyon! Unfortunately, it's STILL raining at the canyon from whence our planned outing was cancelled for same. We arrived, parked. picnicked quite well and took a shuttle to the train depot. This is the point wher Karen and I arrived in'08 and hiked east. We'll be taking the kids west and down a bit. They still haven't had a full view yet. The rain is sporadic and not all along the rim, as soon as it let's up a little we're going to start out and make do. My girls, believe it or not have requisitioned 5 National Park Green trashbags for ponchos! D may have said so but I'll say too, we're to stay in a hostel at the oldest hotel in AZ tonight. It's in the town of Williams on Rt. 66. Should be a hoot.

We left Scottsdale around 9:15 this morning heading towards the Grand Canyon. We aren't going down into the canyon but the 3 of us have never seen it. We are going to the south rim to hike some and have a picnic:) Due to the 4 hour drive between the 2 places, we will only drive 2 hours back and stay at Williams in Arizona's oldest hotel.Tomorrow, on our way back to Scottsdale, we will stop at Sedona. Here we will hike some and then hit the Slide rock natural waterslides!!! I'm having a blast in the car- Gus got new glasses and he is singing crazy songs!!! (Heywood, Father Abraham, Who's Dynamite etc.) The scenery out here is very different from the rest of Arizona- lots of trees. (it looks like TN) Miss ya all lots:)

Boys and me

The boys and I got to spend the day together First, we went early with four hour passes to Crackerjax and rode go-carts, bumper boats & played mini-golf until the afternoon heat was getting to be too much. The boys could NOT pass the old man on the track. Age and guile beats youth and vigor. The go-carts were excellent! The boys tied twice in mini-golf I butI beat them once.
Then Victor got to try out the golf course here, after all it's a golf resort in Scottsdale. The place is impressive. The grass is amazingly green from serious irrigation, more effect from the dams we visited earlier. Victor played and I drove the cart and tried to watch the balls. The boy hits the ball a ton and I couldn't follow the ball off the tee at all. Sometimes, I was lucky and saw it in the air. The cart had a GPS screen which showed where we were on the hole and distances to obstacles and the hole. Silly game, fun to watch Victor play tho'.
Tonight, Isaac and I swam for long time with bunch of kids.

AZ D-Backs vs. SF Giants

We are at a Diamondbacks game today. Deidre sat this one out so we got seats along the first base line in her honor. She won't have to duck balls as she daydreams.
The ballpark is very nice and cool. The crowd is rather sparce though as they've won less than 40 games as yet. The boys are getting to see a good SF Giant pitcher, Lincecum. Hi Deidre!

We had a little dinner at the Barrio in Paradise Valley. We had an avocado shrimp cocktail, tortilla soup, mini-chimis and 2 stuffed poblano's. Good time away... Hope the kids liked their Chic-fil-A!

Orange Tree Golf Resort Scottsdale AZ

We made it to Phoenix via I-10 from LA. As soon as we left the immediate coast it was 15-20 degrees warmer, facinating to experience. By the time we reached our easterly highway in Beaumont it was plenty hot, and then the Palm desert and points eastward it was hotter, but it's only 103 in Phoenix today. It feels a whole lot better than 90 and wet at home. When we filled up in 29 Palms the wind was high and dry. It was impossible to wet the rear window and immediately squeegee it dry, it was dry before you could make one swipe then try to wipe.
We spent the night in Tempe at a little park, awoke early and packed up our stuff, stopped at aUPS store to post one of our boxes of stuff we won't need NOW, swung by the airport to get our car for the week, then returned our RV to Arizona Kachina and drove on to our resort in ScotTsdale. Gus went for the pool in the room first. We're purty beat, soaking up the A/C while Mama still hustles & bustles. The beds are looking awfully comfy too.

It is official. Bill, our Canyon guide, has confirmed the cancellation of our dream tour into the Grand Canyon.
The Havasupai Indian reservation is to be inaccessable to visitors until September. We are OK about it though, we've a condo in Scotsdale, AZ starting tomorrow afternoon until we leave next Saturday. Are plans are to sleep on real beds until we feel like moving again, visit Sedona's world famous slide rock. You'll love those pictures!
Also, the kids have yet to visit the Grand Canyon, so there's hiking to be done at the South Rim. S &K love Williams, there's a fine old hotel there we might see up along Route 66. Then of course we're back in that scorching valley again, I hope the soft life in SoCal hasn't made us too fragile for the 110-115 we expect there.

The boys got to play on a fabulous floating playground on the lagoon beach today. They were a little reluctant to wear life jackets and play with the littler kids but they squealed and hollered like the rest. Most memorably, they were the minions of a strong-willed 10-year-old girl who was calling the shots on the giant teeter-totter. I think I knew one of those once, she never gave up on me and still hasn't.

We received a call from our guide this morning. It looks as though we won"t
be in the Grand Canyon next week.
This is exactly where we are to go. We don't know if next week means next
week or the week after we"re gone.
We already had a condo rented for next week in Scotsdale, so no matter what,

HAVASUPAI, AZ - More than 100 people were evacuated from the Havasupai
Falls area after Monday's flash

About 160 people, mostly tourists, were flown out by helicopter after
getting only a 40-minute warning. They were all taken to Walapi Hilltop,
which is the beginning of the trail to Havasupai. There are no reports of
injuries.

The campground is undergoing repairs now and will remain closed until next
week. According to Edmond Tilousi, the spokesman for the Havasu Tribe, the
dam at Havasu Falls was breeched and it will also need to be repaired.

News reported that the lodge is expected to be closed until at least

Monday. Employees said they have seen damage to the main trail as well. A
camper in the area at the time of flooding called CBS 5 News to report he

We had a marvelous time at sea. The Capt. and Mate were very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a catamaran with a viewing pod in one side. You had to go down in two's and kneel down and look left or right. Believe me, it was worth it. Dolphins are curious about us too. They swim by and eye you and dart away or swim ahead or beside the boat. The really cool thing is the sonar, a part of their sonar range is within our hearing. These dolphins were feeding and mating, the birds pick off the fish driven to the surface. It was nearly impossible to get decent pics because the action is so fast and this EnV3 is slow and difficult at times. I'l try to post a video of higher quality. SO MANY DOLPHINS!!!!! It is so cool. There is an underwater pod u can get into and see the dolphins underwater. there was a whale siting but didnt see it:( we are about 10 miles or so from the coast so anout an hr. till "still" land:) This was an amazing experience!!!

We are out IN the Pacific Ocean dolphin and whale searching. We've seen a pod of common dolphin- they are so pretty!!! Another boat has spotted two blue whales so we are heading in that direction and towards some bottle-nosed dolphins too. Being on a boat out in the middle of the Pacific on a cold windy day is..... well just fine:) Wish u all could see! oh i have some dolphin pix on camera for later:)

We're down in that "Republican" bastion of Orange County. Newport Beach, Laguna, and Dana Point so far. These are VERY nice, exclusive communities with ammenities I would not concieve for ourselves but we'll adapt nicely. Last night, K reserved berths on an ocean going vessel especially designed for dolphin and whale viewing from above and, remarkably, below deck. The website shows an acrylic keel and if this harbor by which we sit eating ice cream and enjoying the cool breeze is any indication, the water should be clear for viewing.
This harbor is teeming with life, Birds, crabs, humans and their pets or children, sailing lessons for a large group of pre-teens, lots of little discreet businesses doing trade with boat owners and the people working to make this lovely place function. Big houses on the high cliffs at the edge of the coastal highway complete the picture.

Sitting here in the RV waiting for dad to get back with a car. Then we are gonna go rent a surrey for a while. (Aint a finer rig im a thinkin' that id care to swap for a shinny little surrey with a fringe on the top--- sorry Oklahoma movie moment). Well for all u in Ohio in 84 degree weather u are having it nice for here in Newport Beach, CA it only 64 degrees:( it is quite chilly with the slight wind, here but we have jackets. Oh well thats part of traveling i guess:)

Earlier, as D said... We found the Ocean. First sighting for all of us, it's a different beast than the Florida coastal Atlantic. Cool and blustery, we spotted dolphins and California seals almost immediately. They didn't pause for sufficient photo's on a phone camera though it was thrilling.
We drove down from Visalia on CA99 through the rest of the San Joaquin Valley's vast array of agricultural products, many of which had various apparatus (Hate to use Latin plurals, sound pretentious) designed to assist the plants or their tenders in some clwvewr way. Every crop wholly dependant on irrigation. Then to the I-5. Later we and cut across to the PCH, or CA1, north of Malibu, a truly astounding burg about 27 miles long and not a block wide it seemed. Alas, too much coastal driving put us in LA at rush hour. I need to post about driving here but I'm still stunned. There were different terrains but you're probably tired of listening to my half-guessed interpretations of the land.

We're in SoCal at the Newport Dunes on Back Bay in Newport Beach, California. It's chilly here the last few days and people here love it that way. It seems most nights and mornings are cool and the sun burns off the damp coolness as the morning progresses but it has been overcast of late, giving the campers a welcome respite from the summer heat.Our neighbors are from Phoenix and they are nearly giddy with delight.
We took an evening stroll around the lagoon, there's a boardwalk bridge across the open end. The campground is rather exclusive and much more than double the cost of any other we've visited. There's a pool, gameroom, store, bicycles and surries, sailboats and electric boats to rent, cottages, beach fire pits, gorgeous scenery on a placid glassy lagoon, and strangely, no foreigners. Must be off the beaten path. Really though, I like the Europeans we've met very much. They are amazed by this land, as are we.

We went to Yosemite National Park yesterday and it was beautiful!!! We saw Half Dome, El Capitan, and Bridal Veil Falls. Then we parked by Yosemite Falls and hike up to Vernal Falls (i.e. bear territory). After that we went up and around Mirror Lake. We are currently heading toward South California- Huntington Beach. We have gone through Fresno and Merced, driving through San Joachin, and passing tons of agriculture - which btw is using water from Lake Powell/ Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Mead/Hoover Dam. Pacific Ocean, here we come:)

We are established at the Visalia, California KOA for 2 nights. We turned in our little Kia this morning and we'll drive a car in to the park tomorrow. The town is closed, i.e. rental cars. Hoover Dam is SPECTACULAR! The drive in is rugged but not as bad as into Zion, though we did have a visual inspection of all compartments and a walk-thru inside. Serious business, that.
We arrived after the orientation film time, and the BLM has made this project a revenue source. It is $8 to walk into the visitor's center, another price for a cursory tour with more info, but it's $30 for the whole tour of the dam. Missed a good line on that one!
It was scorching, 107-115 all week. We parked on the NV side and walked across to AZ. The water level in Lake Mead is down 130+ ft as you may be able to see. The largest man-made lake in the U.S. has shrank considerably. I don't know the capacity.
It is a good example of good solid engineering, after foundation corrections later, and beautiful Art Deco design, think Union Terminal with a power plant.
