Bryce Canyon Hike Pictures

The Bryce Canyon hike was a beautiful!
We enjoyed a nice hike today through, dare I begin to say it; even more beautiful country than we've seen. That may not be true for they are so varied and brutally elegant. These shots were sent to Davy to accumulate and send together. I'm having trouble texting multiple pictures from this region.
We started at the end of the regular trails, Bryce Point. We meandered up and down and around the Rim Trail for miles until we reached the real object, the Navajo. We took switchbacks down to slot canyons and hoodoos and pink coral dunes. We hit trails called Sunrise and Sunset, the boys were humming Fiddler on the Roof, but Sweet K and I were: "Hoodoo, hoodoo you think your foolin'? Yeahyeah!"
Photos from above are Rim, and the lower, maybe more interesting ones are lower on the trails. This is the high desert, horribly dry but also full of life, plants sticking out of hardscrabble like it was set out this spring. The temp was only in the 80's here today. We'll be cold tonight tho.

Bryce Hike Complete

Done. We'll post more pics soon. All of us were tough about the hike, it had to be. This was purty tough training for the canyon. We've made it home and are re-hydrating with watermelon. We plan to hit a dinner buffet at Ruby's and then an evening ATV tour back to Bryce Point whence we started our hike.

So. Poll.
Butte or Mesa?

Inspiration Point looking at Bryce Point, our start. Holes are cool!

Tiny tiny bird with a welcome. Probably can't see him.

To clarify, hoodoos are PEOPLE turned to stone. That coyote's really a crazy clown...

Bryce Point 8300ft.
Hoodoos which a coyote turned to rock.

We're in spruce and Douglas fir country now. We stopped at the visitor center to watch a film to give us a better idea of what we are approaching. Waiting for a bus to take us down to the end of a trailhead and we have about 7-8 miles mapped out.
Can't seem to get pictures out easily from our new digs near Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park in UT. Baby, it's going to be chilly tonight!
It was maybe 100 when we left Page about noon. We did get to tour Glen Canyon Dam today and admired the works of men past and present. I mentioned lower water levels; actually it's now 61 feet under it's capacity. Water rights stutes require GCD to release 8.23 million acre/ft. a year, drought or not. the
maximum cap. is 26 mil.+, enough to cover TN with a foot of water.
We learned how the water drops down into pipes directed out toward the 8 turbines spinning massive shafts at 150 rpm generating electricity in the powerhouse at the foot of the dam. Most notable were the engineering improvements made
since the first kilowatt was produced in 1964. Spillway improvements were made after a wash out in '83 and the newer turbines are 3-5% more efficient.

We're on the shuttle to Bryce proper. A day of hiking awaits.

we left Page, AZ and drove 140 miles or so to Bryce Canyon, UT. However before we left we went to take tour of the Glen Canyon Dam (G.C.D.). It was really cool. We saw how the water was used to make electricity and how it was sent through the G.C.D. The next couple posts down will be pix from tour.
