Can't seem to get pictures out easily from our new digs near Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park in UT. Baby, it's going to be chilly tonight!
It was maybe 100 when we left Page about noon. We did get to tour Glen Canyon Dam today and admired the works of men past and present. I mentioned lower water levels; actually it's now 61 feet under it's capacity. Water rights stutes require GCD to release 8.23 million acre/ft. a year, drought or not. the
maximum cap. is 26 mil.+, enough to cover TN with a foot of water.
We learned how the water drops down into pipes directed out toward the 8 turbines spinning massive shafts at 150 rpm generating electricity in the powerhouse at the foot of the dam. Most notable were the engineering improvements made
since the first kilowatt was produced in 1964. Spillway improvements were made after a wash out in '83 and the newer turbines are 3-5% more efficient.
