We have made interesting friends on this trip. The tourist are mostly European and each one I've spoken to is in awe at our country, they could not conceive the size before there visit but they are most complementary of the American people. Seriously, and they are visiting tourist traps, where the dollar is the reason. Our culture, decayed as it may be is still more genuine and personal than those to which they are accustomed.
This is Karmi, age 70, from Israel. Born in Poland, 1940, he is an archeologist/Sovietologist by trade but has a vivid history in the Israeli military beginning in 1958. He speaks of a military that was so small as to be family, through the 6 Day war, the Arab/Israeli war, Jewish immigration from the USSR under Carter/ Breshznev? and the 1984 secret operations zionizing the Ethiopian Jews. He was so thoughtful and I think brilliant. He was on the trail with us yesterday and we met up with him several times. It was an honor to speak with such a man.
