Hoover Dam is SPECTACULAR! The drive in is rugged but not as bad as into Zion, though we did have a visual inspection of all compartments and a walk-thru inside. Serious business, that.
We arrived after the orientation film time, and the BLM has made this project a revenue source. It is $8 to walk into the visitor's center, another price for a cursory tour with more info, but it's $30 for the whole tour of the dam. Missed a good line on that one!
It was scorching, 107-115 all week. We parked on the NV side and walked across to AZ. The water level in Lake Mead is down 130+ ft as you may be able to see. The largest man-made lake in the U.S. has shrank considerably. I don't know the capacity.
It is a good example of good solid engineering, after foundation corrections later, and beautiful Art Deco design, think Union Terminal with a power plant.

Hey, Bubba,
We love Hoover Dam. Of course the tour was a $1 donation each when we took it and the parking lot was at the immediate east end of the dam. We stepped out of the parking lot and onto the dam. All this was pre 9/11, even pre-Clinton. Ah, those were the days!
Las Vegas left us feeling slimy too!
Love you all.
Davy
