Desert Life
On are way out of the valley we stopped to show the kids a little of the Sonoran Desert. Their expectations were similar to the Sahara but the boys were soon gleefully exploring a terrain unimagined. First, the scope of the land is striking, vast. It is definitely not to be considered flat, but it seems there are stretches in the valley that one couldn't walk in a day and reach the rise on the horizon. It is arid but not sterile. The vegetation is diverse and beautiful, unknown to us. The Saguaro cactus, that great nemesis of an haplesscoyote, is an inspired creation, sadly no great specimens captured on the phone as yet but we have mesquite and others thus far.
