Sunday 2

Near Page, we came around an elevated bluff to the shock of a blue finger far across a valley of great beauty. (Superlatives have failed me... it was awe, wonder...) It was the Colorado river, source to the second- largest man-made lake in the U.S. created by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in the 50's; Lake Powell. It is part of that great chasm known around here as the Grand Canyon. The bed of the mighty Colorado lies at the bottom under more than 500 feet of water. The coastline with all these finger-like coves is collectively longer than the west coast of America. We tour the dam tomorrow.
The primary reason we came to Page however was to visit an old friend, Gus and his still-stunning wife Dana. They were waiting for us on the front porch of a fabulous home perched on a mountain over looking the lake into Utah and the site of the Forbidden Zone in The Planet of the Apes.
